XJ is a main production area of cotton in nationwide. In recent years, with measures of drawing capital and inviting businessmen,over 20 domestic famous textile enterprises including Esquel and Youngor have settled down in XJ, promoting the overall quality of XJ's cotton textile enterprises. Till now, the production capacity of cotton textile in XJ has ranked the 1st among the 12 provinces and regions in west China.

Meanwhile,XJ has formed 5 main cotton textile production industrial areas. Their production scale takes over 91% of the total in whole XJ, becoming the main force to push the industrial economy.
